The Baku Bicycle Club is a group of riders based in Azerbaijan who enjoy mountain and road biking. The membership is very informal and consists of Expats and Azerbaijani Nationals that just want to enjoy local cycling.

The group was formed on September 16th 2003 and has an active list of over 50 riders, with typically between 5 and 10 on each ride. There are off road and road options each weekend, with occasional midweek ‘fitness’ rides. The routes have been tried and tested over the years and provide an excellent variation of terrain and scenery.

All abilities are welcome, with rides tending to get ‘posted’ on an email distribution list during the week (see contacts to join this list).

The local cycling terrain to Baku is excellent for all year round off road riding for mountain bikes, although the scenery is often never too far from the local oil industry. Within 1 hour of Baku (by car) the scenery and terrain begins to be spectacular. Any of the riding away from the City tends to take place in Spring, Summer and Autumn, as the vast mountains to the north of Azerbaijan are not ideal in winter.

The groups of riders during the past 4 years have explored many routes and will be happy to share their experiences with you.

The BBC has been instrumental in developing annual Triathlon competitions in Azerbaijan (see link on right of page). The success of this is demonstrated by the fact we had nearly 100 competitors in the last event, raising significant funds for local charities (Community Shield and UFUQ). Kind support from BP and TTE Petrofac have been instrumental in allowing the event to happen.
