McCleary’s
Ridge starts
at the fork in the trail after the petrol station and dwelling
in Twin Ridge.
Instead of taking the left fork at the JUNCTION,
continue down the hill (under two sets of power lines) for
a hundred yards then turn off it to the right, through the
trees. The exact point and direction aren’t critical
but head across the hill without losing too much height.
You will come across a mini-gorge; follow this downhill
until you can cross it then turn right and start climbing
on the far side. There is a distinct trail / dirt road.
This is a
fairly steep climb which bends to the left and flattens
out after a while. Continue on until you meet a rocky outcrop
on the left of the trail. Leave the trail and ride the outcrop;
there is a steep drop to the left and flatter ground to
the right. There is a railway and lake below you to the
left. Continue along the ridge to a large pipeline. There
isn’t much cycling beyond the pipeline so turn around
and make your way back to the main trail that leads to Twin
Ridge. It is possible to cross the pipeline
and make your way down to the base of the valley but it
involves a lot of carrying the bike and wet ground.
