After going
under the arch on the black cobblestone road, turn left
onto the dirt road and up the short, straight climb. At
the top the trail bends to the right. There are two options
here: the most straight forward is to follow the trail right
and then left and down the hill.
The most
fun is to leave the trail at a tangent to the right turn
and pick up the small animal trail that leads straight down
the side of the hill. Both options come together at the
base of Oil Canyon itself. This is a piece
of flat ground with three exits (ignoring the way you just
came in). The one to the right is a dead-end after a few
yards and the left hand one leads downhill; it is the central
one you want. The base of the climb can be muddy after rain
or sandy in dry weather but either way it gets (a little)
better after a while. The climb is fairly steep and passes
a few oil wells between steep valley sides. Continue up,
following the trail as it bends left and right. The ground
eventually flattens out and you can see a lake in the foreground
to your right and some buildings in the middle distance.
This is a JUNCTION
where Oil Canyon rejoins Twin
Ridge.
